On a happier note to allure a bit of light away from the shame of my last post, I’ve been offered a second summer job interview!!
I was definitely beyond ecstatic when I got a phone call and voicemail last night from the store manager of a grocery store called Kroger. In his voicemail, he said that he’d wanted to have an interview with me for a cashier position. So, after jumping up and down and screaming like I’d won the lottery, I gave him a call back and set up an interview.
Maybe it seems silly to a number of people, but a cashier position at a grocery store was the EXACT type of first job that I’d wanted to have. Sure, Kroger may not be Publix (the main grocery store that I’d wanted to work for) but it is certainly still a great place. And, Kroger has a union – meaning that employees can’t be fired for no apparent reason. Publix, on the other hand, doesn’t have that.
I have my official Zaxby’s job training this weekend in Newnan, starting on Friday afternoon. Because of this, I have set up my Kroger interview time for Sunday at 8am. I haven’t been told what times on Saturday and Sunday I will be wanted for my Zaxby’s job training, but I hope that for Sunday in particular, I’m not scheduled sooner than 10am.
However, if I get unlucky (and that happens quite often, wooooo) and I get scheduled to do training at the same time as the interview, then I can try to reschedule the interview for later in the day. Hopefully I won’t have to reveal yet to either place that I’ll (hopefully) be working two jobs. My mom said doing that would totally finish me if done too early in the process.
The only other thing to consider and decide over this next week is which of the two places, if I succeed at the Kroger interview, I’ll want to put off starting until May, and which one I’ll want to start on weekends at home as soon as possible. My parents both told me that I should start working at Kroger since that’s the type of position I’d wanted originally, and since it’s a calmer environment.
I think that I prefer to start at Kroger too, but I feel like I’ll end up starting a little later in April than I’d wanted to start. And, I don’t know how I’m going to make a request to my Zaxby’s manager to put off starting in May when I already told her that I could be open every other weekend. Regardless, I can’t start both jobs at once since I’m not yet in Newnan often enough to do them both consistently.
This is actually a VERY good problem to have, and even though it’s a bit confusing right now, I know I’ll figure it all out.
For now though, all I need to do is get through this week. No matter what good or bad comes out of it, I have to remember that there’s much excitement waiting for me back at home.
