A spontaneous thought hit me last night when I got back to Athens. I asked myself, "you should take pictures of your typical days at college so that you can remember them. You know it'd be cool so why not start tomorrow?" Of course, we know how that ended up playing out.
A penpal of mine from the Czech Republic did a "day in the life" stream of photos of his day at college last year when I was still in high school, and I remember how fascinating it was to just see the process of a typical day in his shoes. It was fun. Thus, this is why I'm going to do this for both my Monday Wednesday Friday schedule and my Tuesday Thursday one too (because hey, different classes anyway). Even on some of those days my schedule can vary, but this will be a good general outline.
I feel like my photo taking process could have been a bit more creative, but this is why "typical" is a good fit for the title :)
Each photo I'll list will correspond with the number on the list I'm about to start below (because weebly won't let you post a caption beside a photo for whatever reason). Maybe Tuesday will be a bit of a better day, but for now, here we go with my routine!
1) The first thing I do on Monday mornings is wake up to the sound of my phone alarm at 7:20am. My first class of the day, French, is at 9:05am, but I like to have time to get ready. My bed at school is lofted (it's positioned very high and I'm almost touching the ceiling while I'm in my bed) so after I wake up, I climb down.
2) Makeup. I do my face every single morning at my desk, which is directly in front of my bed. It usually takes me anywhere from 30-40 minutes to finish, which sounds like a lot of time but to me it's very normal and I'm used to it.
3) My roommate usually leaves before I finish with my makeup. After she leaves, I pick out what clothes I'll wear for the day. I just stocked my little closet with a lot of fall clothing so I have a lot more choices now! Today I chose to wear jeans, rainboots (for the first half of the day since it was raining), a dark blue t-shirt, a blue cheetah scarf, and a light gray sweater with a little bit of jewelry.
4) After I get dressed, I heat up some water in my microwave in my dorm and I put coffee and crembrulee creamer. However, today, I chose to have some hot chocolate and marshmallows because I have a whole pack of them to use!
5) As I drink my hot chocolate, I do my hair in front of the mirror. I usually spend less time on hair than I do with makeup. Today I chose to curl/wave my hair, but not very much.
6) I finish getting completely ready and I finish my hot chocolate, so I walk out of my dorm at about 8:50am to walk to my French class, which is about a 7 minute walk.
7) And so I walk, take the elevator up to the 5th floor in the building that my French class is in, and I'm there. Today we just went over subjunctive verbs and transition words, and received a video project to do!
8) French class ends at 9:55am, so every Monday my friend Matthew (who is also in French with me) go to the dining hall and have "Monday milkshakes", which are great. The dining hall starts serving lunch at 10:30am if you want it, so we usually just sit around and wait until that time. Today I had a vanilla milkshake and a cheeseburger. Matthew and I ran into our friend Tara while at the dining hall, so we all sat together and talked for a while.
9) My next class of the day is political science at 11:15am. This is a lecture hall with 300 people, so it's easy to be anonymous here. We typically take notes and listen to our professor, Dr. Gurian. We heard him talk about American political parties today and it was interesting. Matthew is also in this class with me, so I typically copy his notes that I don't get from the lecture.
10) Political science ends at 12:10pm, and Matthew and I part our ways. On the walk back to my dorm, I walk past a small tent being run by a church in the Athens area and they're giving out free lunch bags, each with a ham and cheese sandwich, chips, and a brownie. These things totally happen on campus every now and then and they're awesome! So instead of eating lunch at the dining hall today, I enjoyed a nice free lunch in my dorm.
11) My last class of the day is at 3:30pm, so there's always a bit of a gap between then and the end of political science. I typically use this gap of time to do homework that I didn't do yet for the 3:30 class. I also make another cup of hot chocolate and snack a little bit (usually cereal since I keep apple jacks above in the storage section of my desk). I also reply to my interpals messages and check Facebook, twitter, and snapchat.
12) My last class of the day happens at 3:30pm. I take the bus to get to the part of campus my class is at, which isn't a problem but it just takes longer in general. It is my first year odyssey class that I have once a week, and it's about typography. It's 2 hours long, but next week is the last time I'll have to go! We just worked on sample resumes today on the computer and listened to the teacher give a presentation about how to improve resumes. Pretty laid back.
13) After my first year odyssey class finishes at 5:30pm, I usually eat dinner at the Dining Hall that is right next to where that class was. It's called East Campus Village, or ECV for short, and it's the best dining hall on campus because it's where all the school athletes eat. I had a strawberry smoothie, fruit, tater tots, a cheese pizza, and a slice of cake. I was hungry.
14) I then take the bus back to the main part of campus and I go to the Miller Learning Center, or the MLC for short. I go here and study every single day. Yup, I'm a good student. I have a biology exam to study for tomorrow so I'll spend many hours reviewing my notes and googling videos.
15) I always come back to my dorm really late, and my roommate is sometimes already asleep so the light in the room is off. This is when I then get my shower caddy, walk to the bathroom, take a shower, come back to the room, put on pajamas and go to sleep! It is usually about 2am on average when I go to sleep.
Welcome (somewhat) to a typical Monday experience of a UGA college girl like me!
