Well, the weekend is over, but reminiscing back on the absolute amazingness and fun we had totally isn't! Not only did I get a brief period of chillaxation and quiet time, but I also got to experience a taste of social college chaos. It's always nice when you're able to combine two extremes into one like that.
Most of my Saturday was spent ATTEMPTING (key word, as always) to study and do homework for some classes of mine. I was somewhat successful, I guess. I knocked out a few videos about typography that I had to watch from my first-year odyssey class and finished answering questions for my Biology lab class. I have yet to truly know how to manage my time though!
The other part of my Saturday was spent with some quite incredible people that I'm so lucky to call my friends/buds/dawgmates/whatever else you'd consider homely and awesome. My friend Kimberly, who is currently a senior at the high school I graduated from this past May, came up to Athens to sleep over with me and see the campus for the first time ever! It was really convenient and worked out well because my roommate Lizzy coincidentally slept over at a friend's dorm elsewhere at UGA that night, so we had more space and more leeway as to what we did and how we did it.
Kimberly arrived in Athens at a little past 7 in the evening. The first time my friends Morgan, Kelsey, and (new addition) Will and I did was take her to Chipotle, which is a suuuuper popular Mexican restaurant among both high school and college kids. We took my car to get there, and it's a bit hilarious because I'd accidentally slammed my car door on two of Will's fingers before heading off (oops, I guess I'm a bad new friend). Anyway, it had actually been both my first time and Kimberly's first time going to Chipotle so it was an enjoyable experience! I got chips and medium-spicy salsa, lemonade, and a chicken salad. Yummmmm.
Afterwards, we took Kimberly to Insomnia Cookies in downtown Athens. If you don't know anything about Insomnia Cookies, it's another popular chain that allows customers to order and/or have cookies delivered up until 3 in the morning! It's great, and the cookies are heavenly. Aside from food, we revealed some of the popular UGA landmarks and traditions to Kimberly. Jumping into the gorgeous Herty Field Fountain at night to pose our school letters "UGA", ringing the chapel bell, and taking Kimberly to downtown to get a glimpse of drunk people getting carried out of the bar - all of it was classic.
The rest of the night was spent with our quite handsome guy stud friends at one of their dorms and my dorm. One of them, Haris, was "bae" and still is as we speak. We're just so hilarious like that. We took tons of snapchat selfies, chugged down fun dip, and listened to country and rap music. When at my dorm, we whipped up some popcorn at 4:30 in the morning and we didn't crash until almost 5:30. People really don't lie when they say that the most memorable nights are the ones in which you don't get enough sleep. It was SO worth it.
Our Sunday was typical. We had a plentiful (and I mean PLENTIFUL) brunch at the O-House dining hall at about 11:30am and explored dorms and Athens until about 4pm. From the bookstore, to THE Sanford Stadium, to the MLC (student center), we covered a lot of ground. Kimberly had to go back home soon after that, but I'm sure she'll be returning to Athens again in the future.
It was seriously such a pleasure to have her come up for the weekend and it's awesome that she had a great pre-college experience. We can only predict how much more she's got in store of the next years ahead of her!
